Moor House School
Residential Village, Oxted

The project was for three residential buildings at this school for children with speech and language impairment.

They were built over three storeys, each with 12 children’s rooms plus accommodation for carers.

All buildings have a communal lounge opening out into a central courtyard as well as a large kitchen area. As well, a separate single story medical centre building was constructed, joining two of the blocks and allowing easy, sheltered access for students. In order to meet the planning and energy requirements a solar PV installation has been provided.

The build took place during term time when pupils were in residence and so the project needed a robust health and safety plan to ensure continuity. A fast site set up meant that some of the demolition and more noisy work was started over the summer holiday period to minimise disruption and nuisance to students and staff.

Uplands applied its extensive experience of working on live sites which was a key factor in why Uplands was chosen as the main contractor.
